  • 9-11 August National Camellia Convention at Wanganui includes visits to BBG and celebration of Wanganui branch's 50th Anniversary
  • BBGT Annual General Meeting on Thursday 28 August, Davis Lecture Theater @ 7.30pm followed by a witty vividly illustrated presentation by Wellingtonian Rob Lucas FRNZIH, 'Plants, Places and Pictures - the pursuit of the photo perfection.' Travel with him discovering fascinating plants and landscapes which have a story to tell. Rob lectured in horticulture at the Open Polytechnic Natural Resource Centre and has co-authored several books with John Dawson, and recently 'The Native Garden - design themes from wild New Zealand'. Entry fee: gold coin donation. Members free.
  • Completion of Millennium Hill Pavilion Lookout and Gopperth Steps project. Watch for the early September launch day and 'Step Out' Spring Walk.
  • 11-12 october 'Orchids for Everyone' convention, War Memorial Hall.
  • Conservatory Scoular Room displays:

  • ‘Millennium Hill Project’ photographic display of botanical and structural features
  • ‘Begad! Begonias’ photographic display of Ian McNeur and his collection
  • ‘Botanical Art’ featuring work of Wanganui related botanical artists
  • Permanent display of early photographs of the Gardens.
  • Happenings at the Bason are generated by plants and people, from stunning seasonal botanical displays to cultural events, weddings and family picnic days.

    A Year's Calendar, outlined below, gives some idea of the special botanical features each month and the wide range of events which may take place at the Bason in any one year.

    If you are planning your own event or group activity at the Gardens please book with the the Wanganui District Council Parks and reserves Booking Officer.  A nominal booking fee is charged for weddings and large group functions. An amenities block provides toilets and hot water.  Gas BBQs in the picnic area are free. Garden hosts may also be provided for visiting groups if pre-arranged. See Location and Links.
